War of Dots (abbreviated WoD) is a free-to-play [real-time strategy](Rts) video game developed and published by TeaAndPython. It was released for Windows on 16 January 2026.[1]

Gameplay

War of Dots is a minimalist real-time strategy game where you command armies, capture cities and manage resources to defeat your opponents.[3]

It focuses on simplicity over traditional RTS games, with players controlling only two types of units, "light" and "heavy," each with their own advantages and disadvantages.[3]

Cities serve as both factories and barracks—according to descriptions at the time, each city can only support a certain number of units, making territory and resource control important considerations.[3][4]

The game offers single-player missions, ranked PvP skirmishes, team battles and a map editor for designing your own battlefield.[13]

Development and release

War of Dots was developed by TeaAndPython and released on steam on 16 January 2026 as free-to-play.[citation needed]

It was designed around a "minimalist" philosophy, stripping down much of what a typical RTS might offer to create faster, less complex games

Reception

Following its release, "War of Dots" garnered generally positive user feedback on Steam. In January 2026, Notebookcheck called the game a simplified version of the real-time strategy genre with its quick battles and straightforward mechanics while praising the positive player reception.[2]

According to Steambase, the game held a "Very Positive" user rating on Steam for its first months after release.[3]

Metacritic listed the game following its release but had yet to receive any professional critic reviews by June 2026.[4]
