Ware Junior Senior High School
Ware Junior Senior High School (WJSHS) is a public school serving grades 7 – 12 in the Ware School District in Ware, Massachusetts. It is located at 237 West Street.[1] The school has about 500 students.[2] Indians are the school's mascot and green and white are the school colors.[3]
History
The old Ware High School building was erected in 1893 and is part of the Church Street Historic District (Ware, Massachusetts).
An 1899 report from Oberlin College notes the enrollment of a Ware High School graduate.[4]
Faculty
Marine Corps veteran Edwin Ramos took over as principal from Daren Elwell in 2018.[5] In 2017, Elwell was involved in discussions about preserving Ware's community college campus.[6] Ware schools superintendent Marlene DiLeo is also a former principal at the school.[7]
Programs
The school offers an EMT program and AP classes.[7] The school has an emergency response training program and offers a criminal justice course.[5] It also became the first high school in Massachusetts to offer a firefighter training program.[8] The school offers computer science courses and purchased 5 Finch Robots for them.[9]
Athletics
The school is part of the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference. It has a baseball team,[3] football team, and a cheerleading squad. In 2009 the school's football team won the Division 4 Western Massachusetts Super Bowl in overtime against Pioneer Valley Regional School.[10]
The school's football team won the Tri-Valley title in 2017 and 2018.[11]
The now defunct Holyoke Hurricanes played their Independent Women's Football League home games at the School, in 2008 and 2009.[citation needed]
