The Public Speaking Society at The University of Warwick is a public speaking society at the University of Warwick.[1] The society specialises in training students in improving their speaking skills before an audience. From 2005-07, the Society was a Toastmasters International Gavel Club, before regaining membership in 2012.[2]

History[edit]

The Public Speaking Society at The University of Warwick, formally known as Warwick Speaker established in November 2005 as a Toastmaster Club. Although it is engaging in similar activities as Toastmasters it also includes an educational part in the session. Furthermore, It runs an annual Inter-University Competition.[3][4]

Sessions[edit]

The society used to meet every Tuesday at 7.15pm in University term time at OC1.01 at the University of Warwick. .[5] In 2020/21 academic year, the events occurred at the same time but virtually due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Competitions[edit]

The society also runs two annual competitions. The first, an internal competition, was first held on 5 December 2012. The other competition, The Inter-University Competition, was last held in February 2020 and operates annually.[6] Due to the spread of COVID-19, in February 2021 the competition was replaced by Inter-University Public Speaking Forum as a one-off event.
