Washbood (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) is a town and Union Council located in the Panjgur District of Balochistan province.[2] It is one of the 16 Union Councils that comprise the Panjgur District and is situated within the Panjgur Tehsil.
Geography
Washbood is situated at an elevation of approximately 980 metres (3,220 ft) above sea level. It is located near the district headquarters of Panjgur, which is known for its date palm cultivation. The climate is arid, characterized by hot summers and cool winters, typical of the Makran region.[3]
Demographics
According to the 7th Population and Housing Census conducted in 2023, the population of Washbood is 44,629. The majority of the inhabitants are ethnic Baloch, and the primary language spoken is Balochi. Most of the population follows Islam.[1]
Infrastructure
The town serves as a local hub for education and healthcare for the surrounding rural settlements. Notable facilities include:
- Healthcare: The town is served by a Basic Health Unit (BHU Washbood) and a Community Dispensary (CD Washbood Malikabad) which provide primary medical services.[4]
- Education: Several government and private schools operate in the area, contributing to the literacy rate of the Panjgur Tehsil, which is among the higher rates in the region.[5]
Economy
The economy of Washbood is primarily agrarian, with a heavy focus on the cultivation of dates, particularly the Mozati variety. Many residents are also involved in livestock herding and small-scale trade.
