Wasim Kempson

Sheikh Wasim Kempson (also known as Imam Wasim Kempson) is a Biritish Islamic scholar and is known for being one of the well-known scholars of Islamic Daawah in Britain. He was born in London, his mother is Irish whereas his father is English. His family is a purely conservative and catholic one. He studied in one of the oldest Christian schools in Britain called the “The holy Christ”. At a young age, the scholar showed a deep interest in the philosophy of divine religions that led him to convert to Islam at the age of 18.[1] He accepted Islam in 1994 then three years later he went on to study at Madinah University. He went on to study at the Islamic University of Madinah for seven years, during which he completed a Diploma in Arabic Language followed by a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Shariah and Master of Arts in Islamic Law.[2]

He first studied at the Salesian College but soon went to the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia seeking further knowledge in the field of Fiqh and Aqeedah. He then went back to London where he continued his studies at the University of London, the school of Oriental and African Studies to get a professorship in Islamic law.

Shaykh Wasim Kempson is currently 37, he is holding the post of the Director-General of the West London Islamic Centre wherein he is also a member and takes part in its activities. He also gives lessons on a regular basis in the center and watches over providing the adequate teachings of Islam and a correct understanding of the religion in a British society to avoid misconceptions and stereotypes.

Shaykh Kempson also supervises the teaching of the Quran and Sunnah at the “Tayibun” institute next to a number of prominent sheikhs and teachers. He also presents a show on the Arab channel Iqraa called “Arihla Al-khalida” (the eternal journey) that is followed by an important number of viewers.
