WeWork India
Comment: Long history of UPE and socking. Also TA is using a proxy. S0091 (talk) 16:11, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
Comment: I added a paid editing notice to the talk page of the submitter, because of the page's history and the submitter's geolocation that is neither in India nor a country that is a common destination for the Indian diaspora; I'd also ask that reviewers check the submitter's contributions, particularly to this article. WeWork India is an Indian coworking company based in Bengaluru. It operates office spaces under a licence from WeWork and is majority-owned by Embassy Group.
It began operations in 2017.[1][2] Its shares were listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India in October 2025.[3]
History
The company was incorporated in 2016 and began operations the following year.[3][1] By July 2018, it operated nine properties in Bengaluru, Mumbai and the Delhi National Capital Region. That year, it began offering to design and manage offices for corporate clients in addition to operating shared workspaces.[4]
In October 2022, WeWork India announced an investment in Zoapi, a Bengaluru-based provider of conferencing and collaboration technology.[5]
Following WeWork's bankruptcy filing in the United States in November 2023, WeWork India chief executive Karan Virwani said that the Indian company was a separate entity and that its operations would not be affected by the proceedings.[6]
Initial public offering
The company's shares began trading on October 10, 2025, following a ₹3,000 crore initial public offering. The offering consisted entirely of shares sold by existing shareholders, Embassy Buildcon and 1 Ariel Way Tenant; the company received no proceeds from the sale.[3][1] Before the listing, proxy advisory firm InGovern raised concerns about the company's financial position and corporate governance.[7]
Legal challenges
In 2025, two investors petitioned the Bombay High Court to challenge the Securities and Exchange Board of India's approval of WeWork India's IPO. They alleged inadequate disclosure of criminal proceedings involving the Economic Offences Wing and the Enforcement Directorate, and insufficient regulatory scrutiny of their complaints. The petitions also claimed that the offer documents were not adequately explaining the risks associated with accumulated losses and negative net worth.[8]
WeWork India opposed the petitions. SEBI told the court that it had required more prominent disclosure of Enforcement Directorate proceedings and that the prospectus had been amended. In December 2025, the court dismissed both petitions, finding that the lead managers had made adequate disclosures and that SEBI had scrutinised the offer documents. It held that primary responsibility for disclosure rested with the lead managers, while SEBI's role was supervisory. The court also ordered one petitioner to pay ₹100,000 in costs for withholding replies received from the company and its lead managers.[8]
On March 13, 2026, the Supreme Court of India dismissed an appeal challenging the IPO approval, declining to interfere with the High Court's decision.[9]
Operations and finances
As of June 2026, WeWork India operated 79 centres across eight cities, covering 9.1 million square feet.[10]
For the financial year ended March 2025, the company reported revenue from operations of ₹1,949.2 crore and a net profit of ₹128.2 crore. The profit included a deferred tax gain of ₹285.7 crore; the company recorded a loss before tax of ₹156.7 crore.[11] For the quarter ended June 2026, it reported revenue from operations of ₹683.83 crore and a consolidated net loss of ₹4.31 crore.[10]
