We Hate You Please Die is a punk rock band from Rouen, France, active since 2017. The band consists of Chloé Barabé (vocals, bass), Joseph Levasseur (guitar) and Mathilde Rivet (drums).

Biography[edit]

In 2013, Joseph Levasseur (guitar) and Chloé Barabé (bass) met in their hometown of Rouen. After recording a demo together, Joseph met Mathilde Rivet (drums), neighbor of Raphaël Balzary (vocals), and they all began rehearsing together in early 2017. Their name is a direct reference to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World[1]

In 2018, they self-produced their debut album, Kids Are Lo-Fi[2], on the label of the same name (now Incisive Records), enabling them to perform all over France, including at Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges and Rock en Seine. In 2020, they release the 3-track EP Waiting Room[3]

In 2021, their second album Can't Wait To Be Fine is released[4] , judged by Rock & Folk as "a second album that is more mature, more detailed and, above all, much more powerful"[5]

In early 2023, the band announces the departure on their social media of the lead singer Raphaël Balzary for "personal reasons". The band restructured itself around a punk trio, with Chloé Barabé joining on vocals. They embark on a 2023 tour of France and Canada[6], including an appearance at the Armada de Rouen in June 2023[7]. Under their new guise, they release 2 singles, the first in April 2023 with Sorority/Control[8] and the second, Adrenaline, in April 2024.[9]
