WebTVAsia is a YouTube-certified[1] multi-channel network owned by Malaysian digital entertainment media company Prodigee Media Group. The WebTVAsia name has since been adapted by Prodigee Media Group to represent its brand of businesses that include event management, artiste management, as well as production and distribution for film and music.
Overview[edit]
WebTVAsia started in 2013 under its holding company Prodigee Media Group. Its establishment came about as co-founder and Group CEO Fred Chong looked to base the proprietary company’s business on digital and mobile media consumption trends, with a focus on millennial audiences.[2] Prior to the inception of its subsidiary multi-channel network, the company had earlier ventured into making an online presence by promoting Malaysian artistes Karen Kong and Namewee through Friendster.[3] These two artistes would later be featured as the multi-channel network’s first few affiliated content creators.
As of 2015, the multi-channel network had accumulated 600 online video channels drawing in 600 million monthly views.[4] WebTVAsia’s content distribution efforts have brought about partnerships with media outlets throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States. Its content partners include METUB (Vietnam),[5] Pocket Aces (India),[6] CJ E&M[7] and Duble Kick Entertainment (South Korea),[8] Layaria (Indonesia),[9] Dailymotion (France),[10] and Tudou (China),[11] among others.
