Web Design Museum was launched in May 2017 and is currently displaying screenshots of more than 1,200 carefully selected websites with unique design. The main goal of the Web Design Museum project is to give the general public a comprehensive view of the history of web design and to map out past web design trends that prevailed on the Internet between 1994 and 2006.[1] The main part of the museum are website screenshots that come from the personal archive of Petr Kovář, the founder of the museum. A part of the collection are exhibits that were obtained through the Wayback Machine digital archive or Arquivo.pt.
The museum is divided into several sections: a gallery, timeline, flash websites, exhibitions and web design history. The timelines capture the development of significant websites from the beginnings to the present.[2] The exhibition section presents themes from the history of web design such as web banners in the 90s, the first search engines, pixel art in web design, or erotic websites in the 90s.
