Wellington "THE PRODIGY" Turman (born July 22, 1996) is a Brazilian mma fighter, currently competing in the middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Early career[edit]

Because he was sedentary, Turman knew he needed physical activity. He tried bodybuilding and found that he needed something with more "action." It was then that at age 15, through a tenant from his father, which the young man started in martial arts.

"My childhood was very good, my parents always supported me a lot and gave me a good education. In my teens I started to feel sedentary, I tried some physical activities and nothing pleased me, I wanted something with more action, because I felt this need to have some more explosive activity. My father had rented the house to a Muay Thai teacher, Master Cleber Argente. My brother William encouraged me to go to class and right away I saw that it was the kind of sport I needed ." - said Turman

Seeing names like Anderson Silva and Jon Jones at UFC that Wellington found he needed to migrate to MMA. The premiere in the amateur category took place at 17 years of age. With five wins in five fights in the amateur cartel, the young man turned 18 and decided to start his professional career.[1]

Gile Ribeiro[edit]

Between August 9 and September 28, 2014, Turman made his first three professional fights, and after his victory over Thiago Nata, came the invitation of one of the country's greatest coaches, Gile Ribeiro, who saw potential in the young star of Paraná.[1]

“Master Gile Ribeiro was always a guy who believed and invested in me too much. Thanks to him I am at this level today, I am very grateful to him for all he has done and still does for me. ”- declares

Future FC 4[edit]

Fate plays tricks, and in the Future FC 4 vote, the audience decided to put Wellington Turman to face Marcio Lyoto. The fight, which would be the co-main of the night, gained main fight status after Alan "Pure Bone" left the card. After facing each other, the two met forces in the Future FC decagon in the São Paulo capital, and with a very technical fight, Turman won, by submission in the first round. It is wrong to think that the pupil of Gile Ribeiro sought the grappling fight, the fighter, who was also prepared by Professor Cristiano Padilha, left for the exchange and managed to fruit Lyoto's game. After a good combination of blows, Turman took advantage of the fact that Lyoto was on the ground, and put an end to the story by applying a beautiful lion killer, at three minutes and 10 seconds of the first round.

Contract with LFA[edit]

Coming from four straight wins from his 15 career totals, Wellington Turman is Future FC's newest athlete on the Legacy Fighting Alliance, known as LFA, who is chaired by Ed Soares. The Gile Ribeiro Team athlete dreams of being a UFC champion and knows that being in the LFA may be the way to achieve this by 2019.

“I am very happy with the opportunity at LFA, it will be my international debut and I will be there, close to the UFC. I won't lie, my biggest dream is to be UFC champion and I will be. I set a goal to join the largest organization in the world later this year, this is the first step. You can be sure that I will still give many joys to the Brazilian people, I am ready to look for bigger flights. ”- concludes

Contract with UFC[edit]

As proof of the rapidity of events on his MMA trajectory is the deal with the UFC. After beating Márcio Lyoto by submission in the first round in April, Turman had an appointment from Max Fight, however, an Ultimate call changed all his plans. The debut took place on July 13, 2019, on the UFC Sacramento card, when he faced American Karl Roberson and was eventually defeated by the judges decision.

“It's been really cool (career moment). I started early in MMA at the age of 15, so when I was 18 I was already making my pro debut. I already have a great experience in the fighting world. I'm feeling very well prepared to be here (at UFC) at the right time, ”said the Brazilian, in an interview with TATAME.[2]

UFC SP[edit]

In the UFC SP Wellington Turman is looking for his first win in the Ultimate.

One of the most promising Brazilian athletes in the middleweight division (up to 84kg), Wellington Turman (15-3), just 23, arrives to make his second UFC fight. Escalated for the November 16 edition in São Paulo, Turman replaces Welsh Jack Marshmann (23-9) in front of his compatriot Markus Maluko (12-2).

Determined to turn a page from his last fight, Wellington Turman wants to show his worth. On the 16th, the curitibano will look for his 16th career victory and is ready to show the Ultimate leaders who got it right by hiring:

“I'm ready for my first victory, to redeem myself. I want to show UFC that they did it right to hire me. I want to give a show to the public, redeem myself with them. My first fight wasn't a good fight, so this time I want to give them a show. I want to make them see that it's worth watching Turman stepping on that cage! ”- concludes.[3]
