Wesley J. Hall

Wesley J. Hall (born May 8, 1969) is a Canadian businessman and Founder and Executive Chairman of Kingsdale Advisors,[1][2] a strategic shareholder advisory firm[2] with offices in Canada and the United States.[3]

Hall is also owner of QM Environmental[4] and Titan Supply. [4][5]

In 2014, the Globe and Mail called Hall “one of most influential power brokers on Bay Street[6] and Canadian Business magazine has named him one of the country’s “most powerful business people.”[7]

In 2016, Hall was the subject of a documentary film, which premiered at the Toronto Black Film Festival. The 82-minute film, directed by Samuel Lehner, detailed Hall’s life and accomplishments from childhood to present day.[8][9]

EARLY LIFE

Wes Hall was born in Golden Grove, Jamaica, and raised by his maternal grandmother in a tin shack. [6] [9] [10]In 1985, at age 16, he moved to Canada to live with his father in Toronto, Ontario.  While still a teenager, Hall moved out of his father’s family home and into a rooming house, working as a dishwasher while he finished high school.[6] [9]

BUSINESS SUCCESS

In 2003, Hall launched Kingsdale Shareholder Services (renamed Kingsdale Advisors in 2017), with services focused on proxy solicitation and advisory, governance advisory and strategic communications.[1] [3] Under Hall’s leadership Kingsdale has worked with some North America’s biggest companies including:  Barrick Gold, BHP Billiton, Citigroup, Goldcorp, Talisman, Suncor, Pershing Square,[1] [11] and CP Rail.[8]

Hall has also sat on the corporate boards of Difference Capital Financial,[12] Equity Financial Holdings Inc.,[13] Longford Energy,[14] and Wellgreen Platinum.[13][15]

PHILANTHROPY AND CHARITY WORK

In 2014, Hall made a $1-million donation to the SickKids-Caribbean Initiative, a not-for-profit collaboration between SickKids Hospital in Toronto.[16] Hall currently sits on the Board of Directors of Sick Kids Hospital.[17]

He is also a Director of Pathway to Education, a community-based program that helps youth from low-income communities to stay in school,[18] and the Toronto International Film Festival.[19][20]

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

For his business success and charity work, Hall received an Honorary degree of Doctors of Laws (LLD) from the University of the West Indies in 2017.[21] One year earlier, he received the Vice Chancellor’s Award from the same school.[22]

Other honours include the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Ontario in 2009[23] [24] and the Harry Jerome President’s Award in 2017. [25][26]

Hall is regularly called upon by the media to provide commentary about the business and financial sector.[11][27][28]
