The West Bromwich Albion Training Ground (currently known as the Palm Training Ground for sponsorship reasons) is the training ground of English football club West Bromwich Albion F.C. It is near the town of Walsall, in the West Midlands of England. Major expansion of the ground began in 2010, The 45-acre site had nine outdoor grass pitches and a single-storey pavilion which was extended. An artificial floodlit pitch with eight 15-metre high floodlights and an indoor training pitch were built. A gatehouse and security fencing was also constructed, whilst parking was also increased.[1]. The ground was further expanded between 2017 and 2018 at the request of then manager Tony Pulis[2].
The Academy[edit]
Academy players train at the Palm Training Ground as well as at the West Bromwich Albion Academy located in the former Tom Silk Building on Halfords Lane, close to the clubs ground The Hawthorns.
Outdoor facilities[edit]
The site covers a total area of 48 acres (190,000 m2). On the grounds, there are a total of 11 football pitches of varying sizes; 9 of which are grass pitches (with drainage, irrigation sprinklers, under-soil heating and floodlights), one full-size outdoor floodlit and heated AstroTurf all-weather pitch and one full-size indoor floodlit and heated AstroTurf artificial pitch. Desso GrassMaster playing surfaces are used, the same surface as the pitch at The Hawthorns.[3]
Security[edit]
The facility is surrounded by a security fence and features a gatehouse at the grounds entrance.
Sponsorship[edit]
The ground became known as Palm Training Ground following a sponsorship deal with Palm Eco-Town Development Company, a company affiliated with West Bromwich Albion owner Lai Guochuan.
