Western Regional Storage Trust

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Western Regional Storage Trust is a distributed shared print journal archiving program founded in 2010 and hosted by the California Digital Library at the University of California. It coordinates long-term retention and access to print journal backfiles among academic libraries and consortia in the western United States and adjacent regions.[1][2][3]

History and scope

Planning began around 2010 under the stewardship of the California Digital Library. A 2012 overview described participation by more than one hundred academic libraries across multiple western states, with archive holders agreeing to retain designated titles for a defined term.[4] Program documentation and technical literature describe WEST’s collection analysis workflows and archive building practices.[5][6]

Activities

Members consolidate, validate and retain journal backfiles at storage facilities and campus locations for access through interlibrary lending. WEST publishes policies for archive holders and archive builders, and provides program updates and training.[7][8]

Registration and disclosure

WEST archived holdings and retention commitments are disclosed in the Center for Research Libraries Print Archives and Preservation Registry and in OCLC discovery environments. Program pages and records note retention terms extending through 31 December 2035 for archive holders.[9][10][11]
