Whitehills School is a local authority primary and nursery school located within the small fishing village of Whitehills, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The school serves the villages of Whitehills and Ladysbridge, as well as outlying areas within the Whitehills catchment zone, including Boyndie, Hilton, and Mid Culbeuchly.[1] The current building is open plan in structure and has been in use since 1977. Catering for children from Nursery age up to Primary 7 age, the school follows the Curriculum for Excellence and is a part of the Banff Children's Services Network (CSN).[2]
As with all schools in Aberdeenshire, Whitehills is co-educational, providing education for both boys and girls. The school does not teach by means of the Gaelic language. Most children at Whitehills School, following Primary 7, will transition to Banff Academy; the local secondary school within the CSN.[3]
History
The village of Whitehills has had a publicly funded school since the late 1870s. The school roll grew over the years, as did the village, enrolling children who would now be considered both primary and secondary school aged until 1967. Originally located off Loch Street on Old School Court, this building has now been demolished after being replaced by what was a purpose-built school in 1977 on Forbes Road. Very little of the old school building remains.[4]
Today
The current school has not taken in secondary school aged children since 1967; however, current nursery and primary school children continue to attend the Forbes Road building. The school has an approximate enrolment of 146 children and is formed by a nursery, lower school and upper school. There are around 30 members of staff ranging from teachers, early years practitioners, pupil support and school support staff.[5]
| School Zone | Classes |
|---|---|
| Upper School | P7, P5/6, P4/5 |
| Lower School | P3/4, P2, P1 |

The school became popularly known and made local headlines during the COVID-19 lockdown for its virtual performance of the High School Musical song 'We're All In This Together'.[6]
