WHIXER

A Whixer (whix-er) is a type of tool for mixing materials of varying viscosity. Primarily designed as a kitchen utensil for food preparation but it also adaptable for specific types of small industrial mixing tasks. It differs from a whisk by incorporating a cutting edge and a deflection surface to improve blending efficiency. [1]

In the past, when mixing most household food ingredients, a common tool used was the whisk, spoon or spatula [2]. The spoon and spatula mainly act as a push tool when mixing. A whisk is designed for blending and whipping air into light materials or mixing low viscosity materials [3], but mixing thicker materials typically get trapped inside the whisk, making mixing and clean up difficult [4]. The whixer is a tool that fills the gap between a whisk and a spatula incorporating cutting, smashing and pushing actions, along with material deflection to increase the blending of materials efficiently. The various shapes of the whixer tool are optimized for combining materials with different viscosity or for different use cases [5].

The original Whixer and Whixer XL is a hand-held tool that consists of a handle and a head. The shape of the head is designed for the use case it is intended for, like a bowl or glass. The internal flanges break up the head area into slots or gaps for material to flow through during the mixing process. In addition, the interior membranes perform cutting of the material as it passes by and deflection to push the material to the side so that it collides with the other material flowing through the utensil or the sides of the container. This accelerates the mixing of the materials.

ETYMOLOGY

The word whixer was derived by combining the words whisk and mixer.

HISTORY

Kitchen tools are typically designed for specific purposes, the fork is designed for picking up substantive food, a spoon is for picking up liquid food, slotted spoons are for picking up substantive food and draining out the liquid. These tools are sometimes used to mix things but were not designed for that task. The Whisk was invented sometime before 1841 to blend low viscosity ingredients or to incorporate air into a mixture. It is good for many mixtures but is not ideal for high viscosity liquids as the material typically gets stuck inside the whisk and does not mix.

The whixer was first introduced into the market in 2025. The word "Whixer" is a registered trademark for a line of mixing tools designed for home and industrial use. [6] The original Whixer was invented by T.J. Kowach in 2024. The initial patent was approved by the USPTO on December 21 2025. It was initially marketed under the Ko Craft brand <ref>Ko Craft brand products</>, however the trademark word WHIXER and associated patent is available for license to other companies.
