The company is an accredited NiRA .ng registrar[6] and also a Google G Suite accredited reseller.

History[edit]

In 2007, at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Opeyemi Awoyemi, a web developer started a web hosting service for his web design clients. The web hosting service became a web reseller for anyone in need of web hosting services. The service which was a subsection of the parent company ennovateNIGERIA lasted for 2 years before rebranding to Whogohost. In 2010, Toba Obaniyi joined Opeyemi as a partner and whogohost became a web solutions company. In 2011, the company registered as a corporate entity and Toba Obaniyi took over as CEO shortly after.

In 2015, Whoghost organised free entrepreneurship trainings[7] for job seekers and entrepreneurs in partnership with Jobberman and NiRA.
In 2016, whogohost acquired iHost Africa[8] and The Expert host[9] in a series of mergers and acquisitions[10]. In 2018, whogohost launched a “take it online” campaign to promote Nigerian SMEs[11]. The promotion was to help small and medium enterprises get online through web solutions and cloud hosting services.

In 2019, Whogohost won the award for the best .NG ccTLD registrar at Platinum category. In a big to helping small and medium enterprises in Nigeria and west africa, whogohost created awareness for online SME clinic[12] at Computer Village in the same year.[13] In 2020, Whogohost recently launched its services in Ghana and Kenya and is looking to expand to other parts of Africa[14]. Due to Covid 19, whogohost also offered free one month hosting to all entrepreneurs migrating online[15]

Controversies[edit]

In August 2016, Whogohost reported a hardware failure on one of its servers called “chicken server” which led to thousands of websites on the server becoming unavailable for days. The Chicken server failure led to the irrevocable loss of customer files and data.[16] This created a lot of backlash from the tech community. The company later took further measures to ensure data protection and back up, and to also curb further issues by hiring a new CTO Spencer Candland who was the former Vice President, Technical Infrastructure at Bluehost.
