Wholesome Games is a promoter and publisher of indie video games.

History

In 2019, independent developer Matthew Taylor launched the Twitter account Wholesome Games with the intent of promoting "uplifting and thoughtful" games.[2][3] In an interview, Taylor further explained that he wants "to curate games by the way they make [him] feel instead of how you play them".[4]

The first Wholesome Direct, a curated digital showcase featuring games aligned with this ethos, was live-streamed on YouTube on May 26, 2020 and presented a total of 55 titles.[5] A smaller event, Wholesome Snack, premiered on August 25, 2020, showcasing nine games.[6] Since then, both Wholesome Direct and Wholesome Snack have been held annually.

The company later established its own publishing label, Wholesome Games Presents, which provides services such as funding, quality assurance, marketing and publishing support.[4]
