Wii Mini

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Wii Mini was a 2012 revision of the Wii that was highly based on the Wii Family Edition, but lost internet and SD card features.[1] The Wii Mini didn't have a slot-loading disc drive and still no DVD capabilities. Like the Wii Family Edition, the Wii Mini did not have any GameCube compatibility. Nintendo stated that the Wii Mini would have full compatibility with Wii titles, but this turned out to be incorrect.[citation needed]

The Wii Mini's pack-in game was Mario Kart Wii.[2]

History[edit]

When Nintendo launched the Wii U to attempt to reclaim their "core" gamers, it was not doing well in sales. Nintendo then decided to create a console that better resembled their older consoles, and that was cheaper, to generate the maximum amount of sales.

The Wii Mini first launched in Canada,[3] which yielded poor sales. It was then released in Europe and the United States.

Homebrew[edit]

Due to the removal of the SD card and internet functionality, homebrew could not be achieved using the same methods as the Wii. In fact, the system remained completely secure until a Bluetooth bug was found in 2019.[4]
