Wikitólica is a Spanish-language online encyclopedia. It focuses on the Catholic Church. The website includes information about Catholic doctrine, Church history, prayers, saints, and popes.
Overview
People can read the encyclopedia on its website. It also has mobile and desktop apps for Android[1] and Windows.[2]
Teachers and experts check the articles before they are published. Many articles use the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia as a starting point.[3] By 2026, the website had about 4,000 articles.[4] These articles cover topics like the Virgin Mary, saints, and popes.
The website shares its data openly. In 2026, it connected its database with other digital libraries.[5] Schools in Spain use its content for free as an Open Educational Resource (OER).[6]
History
Wikitólica started in October 2025 for Spanish-speaking Catholics.[7] It is part of a larger group of Catholic educational tools. This group includes an online course called Curso Católico and a video game called Custodio Animae.[8][9]
In March 2026, Wikitólica released all its data in a free format, similar to Wikidata. This data was saved using Zenodo DOI.[5] In April 2026, the website made tools (widgets) that let other Catholic websites show its articles.[10]
Reception
Several Catholic and cultural news websites wrote about Wikitólica.[7][4][11] Religious schools and projects also use it as a reference source.[12]
