William "Quayshaun" Carter (born October 23, 1970 in New York, New York) is an American businessman and music executive. Carter is the founder and CEO of Que Global Entertainment, a record label and entertainment management company that represents recording artists, songwriters and producers. Previously, Carter was a hip hop recording artist signed to Epic Records.

Recording artist[edit]

In 1990, Carter was signed to Epic Records. Under the stage name Quayshaun, he released the single “Party Slammin” which was produced by Dinky Bingham. He was managed by Top Ten Entertainment owner Darrin Chandler as well as veterans Jimmy Maynes and Jimmy Jenkins aka Jimmy Love. Quayshaun toured with Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Father MC, Big Daddy Kane and Eric B & Rakim. [1]

Music executive[edit]

After his stint as a rap artist, Carter worked with his promotions manager Jimmy “Love” Jenkins at Uptown Records, Frank Toro at Tommy Boy Records and Dennis Kelman, president of legal and business affairs at BMG where he had an opportunity to work on promotions campaigns for Notorious BIG, Total, Coolio, Naughty By Nature and De La Soul. Carter also did promotions for The Fugees with Antone Barnes and even encouraged Lauryn Hill to go solo. [2] Carter assisted in generating more than 100 million dollars in revenue for the aforementioned labels.[3]

Through his company Hood Management, Carter managed the careers of Felecia Lindsey, wife of Bone Thugs N Harmony member Layzie Bone, The Ying Yang Twins, Petey Pablo, The Nappy Roots and others. Carter also helped facilitate label deals at EMI for Bobby Balentino, Twista and Snoop Dogg.[4]

In 2010, Carter’s label Que Records partnered with EMI to release Huey’s sophomore album Redemption. Following Huey’s untimely death to gun violence in 2020, Pitchfork interviewed Carter about working with the “Pop, Lock & Drop It” rapper. “He was a good kid. He was raised on the streets and he chose to do something different. He'd just started another business - he was getting into upscale clothing, and it was working out, and he was happy,” Carter told the media outlet.[5]

In 2014, Carter released a series of projects with Sony/Red that were distributed by Capitol Records.

In 2020, Carter’s new label Que Global Entertainment partnered with BMG to release new music for hip hop artist Lil Haiti who earned millions of streams for his songs “Hit The Wave,” “Good Vibe” and “Panicking.”[6]

Carter is currently managing Grammy Award winning producers The Heavyweights, two-time Grammy winner Justin Love, two-time Grammy winning recording engineer Shamel Hughes, multi platinum prouder Ghost Kid (fka Hollywood Hot Sauce) and up and coming producers Dr. Zeus, Beatz By Eli and songwriter Mizzy Lot.
