William Hatcher Davis
William Hatcher Davis (January 5, 1939 – May 13, 2017)[1] was Professor of Philosophy at Auburn University, where he taught for 47 years[2] and served as Chair of the Department of Philosophy.[3] He was interested in the philosophy of religion, ethics, epistemology, and pragmatism. Among his publications are Peirce's Epistemology, The Freewill Question and "Why be Moral?".
He was an enthusiastic advocate for Sacred Harp music.
Davis had a B.A. and M.A. from Abilene Christian University and a Ph.D. from Rice University.[4] He was inducted into Auburn's Academy of Teaching and Outstanding Teachers in April 2004.[5]
