William Louey is a Hong Kong businessman[1], philanthropist[2], and wellness advocate, as well as a contributor to Entrepreneur.com.[3] A fourth-generation heir [1]of the esteemed Louey family in Asia, William Louey continues to build upon his family's legacy while championing sustainability[4], education[5], and philanthropy[5].
Philanthropy
In 1995, William Louey established the William S. D. Louey Educational Foundation [6]in memory of his grandfather who founded the Kowloon Motor Bus Company. The William S.D. Louey Educational Foundation provides scholarships and bursaries to academically outstanding students from Hong Kong and Greater China for overseas studies[7].
The William S.D. Louey Educational Foundation is based on a "pay-it-forward" principle[8] where scholarship recipients are encouraged to contribute [9]to their communities in meaningful ways, with the aim of fostering a cycle of support and opportunity. In 2016, a group of former scholars established an independent scholarship fund—also named Pay It Forward[10]—to support Chinese students pursuing studies at the University of Oxford. The initiative was created in recognition of the support they had received and as a means of continuing the foundation’s original objectives.
