William Wallace Webb (May 11, 1919 - October 15, 1997) more commonly known by his neo-Gnostic bishop title of Frater Damon or Nemo Damon was a student of C F Russell who with his teachings went on to become the American founder of the Qabalistic Alchemist Church[1] (and multiple other neo-Gnostic religions) which is organized as an Order structure in line with Frater Achad (Charles Stansfeld Jones)'s Qabalistic attributions, also known (today) as the New Aeon English Qabala (NAEQ).[2][3][4]

Early Life[edit]

William Wallace Webb was born on May 11th, 1919 at 6:57 AM in Seattle, Washington. On April 7th, 1941, he joined the United States Marines and served as a forward observer for the Artillery. He took part in operations in the Soloman Islands, Guadalcanal, and in other events of the Second World War. On November 4th, 1944, he married Margaret Tinnin in Ramona. And in 1950, he started practicing mysticism and started dabbling into the occult.

Eventually, Webb was ordained a deacon by an Independent Catholic bishop, Lowell Paul Wadle[5] and may have been ordained a presbyter in the American Catholic Church and eventually, he befriended Independent Catholic bishop Lowell Paul Wadle, and neo-Gnostic bishop Dr. Stephan A. Hoeller.[8] Together with his wife Marry-Ann, Anthony Fisher, and Shreves, he founded the "Philosophic Gnostic Hermetic Society" in 1963 at Joshua Tree, commonly referred to as the PGHS which he passed over to Shreves.[9] The Philosophic Gnostic Hermetic Society was a Ordo Templi Orientis rank eleven spinoff of the Chorozon Club.

The Qabalistic Alchemist Church[edit]

On April 1, 1960, Webb founded the Qabalistic Alchemist Church with Frater Robertus (Robert Dunlap), and their associates, inspired by Frater Achad (Charles Stansfeld Jones). Later on, the A:.A:. style titles were dropped from consideration along with the"AA" in the initials "QAA" in favor of QBLH, the Qabalistic Alchemist Church. The QBLH continued to teach something close to Achad's vision of the A:.A:. revised curriculum, based upon the New Aeon Qabalistic's interpretation of Crowley's The Book of the Law, and the restored Tree of Life after Achad's abandonment of the arcane tradition.[10][11]

In the creation of the QBLH, was also founded inpart by likely York-rite, Master Masons and with the help of the Ethiopian Alchemist Church, an institution which claims to be ten thousand years old and by the "Independent Catholic" called "Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church" with help from the Rosicrucians as well.

Later on in the early 1970s, Webb used information from Robert James Lees and other notable occultists to "break the code" of Aleister Crowley's The Book of the Law by assigning numerical values to the letters of the English alphabet which then allowed Webb to manifest a meaningful set of magical correlations. Through this work, Webb produced the English Qabala.[12]

Later on, the High Council of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia went open to open a Ruby Rose Study Center which they eventually asked Webb to be the leader of. He declined the offer. And then, according to Webb's friend neo-Gnostic bishop Duez Joel Vichery, on November 24, 1973, Webb was awarded the Honorary Seventh Degree in the Ordo Templi Orientis by Kenneth Grant of the Typhonian Ordo Templi Orientis. Around early 1981, Webb's QBLH stayed in frequent friendship with the Typhonian Ordo Templi Orientis and both religions worked on Webb's new creation, the "Ordo Argenteum Astrum."[13] Eventually, Manuel Cabrera Lamparter was appointed as "Frater Senior" of Webb's "Damon" Ordo Argenteum Astrum.[14]

Eventually, Webb contacted Lowell Paul Wadle, a bishop of the American Catholic Church and the Apostolic Episcopal Church.[15]

Webb eventually embarked on writing multiple outlines of his ideas such as one titled, "The Mystery of Jesus and Judas."[16] In this document, Webb claims that the name of Jesus Christ in Hebrew would add up to 326 according to his Qabalistic cipher, and that the name of Judas Iscariot would add up to 30. Therefore, he claims that Christ is fulfilled through Judas alone as 326 + 30 = 356 which he claims is the number of the "cosmic life-breath which is alive and fertile-here and now-on this physical plane."[14]

During Webb's involvement in the Qabalistic Alchemical Church, he was very known for promoting homosexual sex magic and openly wrote letters about it to Peter-Robert König [de]. One very known instance of this taking place was with a 30 and a half year old black man only identified by the name "Tom". Webb often thanked the demon Baphomet for these homosexual encounters that he had with other men.[17][18][19][20]

Later Life[edit]

In 1972, Webb with his partner Meade Layne joined Dion Fortune's The Society of the Inner Light, a school of occult science and was eventually very active with the Theosophical Society.[21]

In 1991, Webb published the Qabalistic Alchemist Church's Liber XIII.[22]

Neo-Gnostic Apostolic Succession Scandal[edit]

Contrary to his title as bishop, Webb had lied to Michael Bertiaux, Lully and Hoeller about actually being consecrated to some form of succession of any kind by Wadle which he admitted in a letter to his friend Peter-R. Koenig. When news of this broke out within neo-Gnostic circles, there was a lot of outrage at Webb. This led to several people such as Hoeller issuing statements. One of these statements was in a letter dated to January 22nd, 1990 where he writes, "I consider it prima facie impossible that Bishop L.P. Wadle consecrated W.W. Webb." among multiple other complaints.

William Breeze later complains in a letter of his own how he was deceived by Webb into believing that he had obtained a valid Catholic lineage of apostolic succession and says that he doesn't care what Webb had believed about being "consecrated by mail, on the astral, or both. etc. etc." This reaction was to him believing that he was consecrating Cakes of Light into the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, as he believed that it was "the essential energy that the Gnostic Mass was designed to induce in its officers."

In some sort of an attempt to defend himself, Webb responds that Wadle planned to consecrate him a bishop, but says that he died suddenly so he was unable to. He then claims on a letter dated on March 21st, 1990 that he was already a bishop of the Q.A. Church but refuses to name who consecrated him which led to a great suspicion of all of his associates. He then remorses that he doesn't want a part anymore of any of the neo-Gnostic or Independent Catholic churches and especially not the Ordo Templi Orientis.[5]

Eventually, Webb passed away on October 15th, 1997.
