Wilson Oryema

Wilson Oryema (born 30 July 1993) is an Artist, Activist, Writer, and Fashion Model.

Early Life[edit]

Oryema was born and raised in London, England.[1]

Career[edit]

Oryema began his modelling career in summer 2014 walking for Maison Margiela.[2][3] He has since modelled in campaigns for Calvin Klein[4][5], Hugo Boss[6], Versus Versace[7], French Connection[8], Kenzo[9][10], Camper, Topman, and more. He is currently represented by Storm Model Management.[11]

He is also featured in the 2018 Pirelli Calendar, where he played the seven-of-hearts-playing-card gardener.[12] which was shot by British Photographer Tim Walker.

He describes himself as a "self taught" artist and works across various mediums, including, Film, Photo, and text. In 2017 he held his first solo exhibition at Doomed Gallery in London, which featured sculpture, video, and photography around the themes of trash and consumption.[13][14]

He released his first book, titled Wait, in December 2017. It is described as a book of short stories and poems he has written about contemporary Consumption and the effects it has on society and the environment.[15][16]

Oryema in 2018 also helped to launch The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, which aims to bring the Commonwealth "together to showcase a wealth of design and artisan fashion talent across its 52 countries." The project is said to have been created by the sustainability-focused consultancy, Eco-Age, with the support of The British Fashion Council and The Commonwealth Fashion Council, and in partnership with Matches Fashion, Swarovski, and The Woolmark Company.[17][18]
