windsoriteDOTca News is a Canadian online hyperlocal news publication covering local news in Windsor, Ontario and Essex County, Ontario. It features content on local news, events, business, and arts and entertainment.[1]
History[edit]
The company was founded in 2010 by Owen Wolter with a goal of connecting readers to "stories about what literally happens on a neighbourhood level — in your neighbourhood."[1]
The publication was cited as a "successful hyper local site" that "created community" in an article by Canadian newspaper trade association News Media Canada.[2]
windsoriteDOTca was supported with seed funding in 2011 through the University of Windsor's Centre for Enterprise and Law.[3] The company took part in the WEtech Alliance's DeskUP mentoring program for startups at the Downtown Windsor Business Accelerator.[4]
In addition to news, windsoriteDOTca publishes a number of city guides for Windsor-Essex: a local events guide, a restaurant guide, guides to local traffic cameras and gas prices, a summer festival guide and a Christmas events guide. A photo of the day section showcases the work of local photographers.[5]
