Wired Productions is an independent video game publisher based in Watford, Hertfordshire, UK, founded in 2008 by Leo Zullo, Jason Harman and Kevin Leathers.[1]

Wired Productions began as a video game production company, producing a number of peripheral based games including Dance Party, Kart Racer, and the We Sing franchise of Karaoke games for the Wii. After success with the We Sing franchise of karaoke games, Wired Productions, Nordic Games and developers Le Cortex formed the company, We Sing Productions in 2016.

In 2013, Wired Productions moved from production to console publishing for all major platforms. As of May 2021, Wired Productions employs 20 people.[2]

History (2008–2013)

Wired Productions was founded in 2008 by Leo Zullo, Jason Harman, and Kevin Leathers.[3]

Beginning as a video game production company, Wired Productions initially worked exclusively with Nordic Games Publishing, producing a number of peripheral based games including Dance Party, Kart Racer, and the We Sing franchise of karaoke games for the Nintendo Wii.[4]

In 2012, Wired Productions became non-exclusive, whilst continuing to work on other We Sing games. In this year, Wired Productions produced 'La Voz' (The Voice) and 'Loc 40 Principales' for major console formats.[5][6][7]

In 2013, Wired Productions moved from production into console publishing for all major platforms.

Publishing (2013–present)

Wired Productions moved from production into console publishing in 2013. Their first release was Let’s Fish! Hooked On, a sports fishing video game, developed for the PlayStation Vita console.[8][9]

In 2014, Wired Productions published the mobile game Tiny Troopers Joint Ops, a twin-stick shooter video game, on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.[10][11] In 2015, Tiny Troopers Joint Ops was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Wired Productions also secured worldwide publishing rights for Last Inua, a 2D platform-adventure game, which released for Windows and macOS in 2014.[12][13]

In 2016 Wired Productions launched Super Dungeon Bros, a roguelike video game, for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and macOS. At launch, Super Dungeon Bros was available for free during the month of November 2016 on Xbox One as part of the Games With Gold service.[14] Wired Productions worked with THQ Nordic who simultaneously published physical copies in North America and PAL territories.[15] In the same year, Wired Productions, Nordic Games (Now known as THQ Nordic) and Le Cortex formed the company, We Sing Productions, dedicated to the We Sing range of karaoke titles.[16][17]

In 2017, Wired Productions and THQ Nordic announced a partnership to bring Victor Vran: Overkill Edition (an expanded version of the action role-playing video game Victor Vran) and The Town of Light (a psychological horror adventure game) to retail.[18][19] Both The Town of Light and Victor Vran: Overkill Edition released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 6 June, 2017.[20] In the same year, Wired Productions released Tiny Troopers Join Ops XL and Vostok Inc., a twin-stick action arcade clicker, on Nintendo Switch. As well as this, they brought the former Xbox One exclusive Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, a puzzle-platform video game, to PlayStation 4.[21] Wired Productions also acquired global distribution rights for the Surf World Series, an arcade surfing video game, which was made available for retail and PlayStation 4 on 10 November, 2017.[22][23]

In June 2018, Wired Productions teamed up with Saber Interactive and Shaquille O’Neal to release Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, a beat'em up video game, on Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.[24][25] In August 2018, Wired Productions launched Victor Vran: Overkill Edition for Nintendo Switch.[26][27] They also released the physical version of Max: The Curse of Brotherhood for Nintendo Switch in December of the same year.[28] Wired Productions released GRIP: Combat Racing on Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on 6 November, 2018.[29] Upon its Xbox One launch, GRIP: Combat Racing was also made available to play as part of the Xbox Game Pass service. [30][31] Wired Productions also announced a co-publishing deal with the developers of Just Deal With It! (Super Punk Games) and Wordhunters (Thumbfood), with Wired Productions handling the physical release for both games.[32] Both games released for PlayStation 4 on 14 November, 2018.

In May 2019 Wired Productions released Close to the Sun, a first-person horror adventure video game, on the Epic Games store. In October, the title was launched on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.[33] In August of the same year, Wired Productions teamed up with developers Cherry Pop Games to bring Pool Nation, a pool simulation video game, to physical retailers.[34] Wired Productions also released Deliver Us The Moon on Windows in October 2019, which was later updated to make use of ray tracing technology in a partnership with Nvidia in December 2019.[35][36] In November of the same year Wired Productions released Fractured Minds, a puzzle role-playing video game, developed by British game designer Emily Mitchell.[37] 80% of the proceeds from Fractured Minds are split between the developer and video games mental health charity, Safe In Our World.[38] Wired Productions launched Avicii Invector in December 2019, in partnership with developers Hello There Games with the full support of AVICII Music.[39] Avicii Invector was originally released on PlayStation 4 under the name 'Invector' in 2017, all PlayStation 4 owners therefore received a free update for the game.[40] During the XO19 event in London, Wired Productions announced that their upcoming title, The Falconeer, would be releasing on Xbox One in 2020.[41]

In April 2020, Wired Productions released Deliver Us The Moon on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with the title being available on Xbox Game Pass upon launch.[42] After being delayed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Wired Productions released Those Who Remain, a psychological thriller game, was released digitally on Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 28 May, 2020.[43] In May 2020, Wired Productions released Close to the Sun on Steam and GOG.com, having previously only been available on the Epic Game Store.[44] Wired Productions also teamed up with the streaming service Twitch to offer Prime members Fractured Minds and AVICII Invector, in May 2020.[45] In June 2020, Wired Productions announced a distribution partnership with Koch Media in order to expand its global outreach.[46] In November 2020, Wired Productions released The Falconeer, an Xbox Series X|S launch title, by indie developer Tomas Sala.[47] In the same time period, Wired Productions also announced that Martha is Dead, a psychological thriller, would release on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in late 2021.[48]

In February 2021, The Falconeer joined the Xbox Game Pass, alongside the release of The Hunter DLC.[49] In April 2021, Wired hosted their first online digital event, Wired Direct.[50] During the show five new titles were announced: Tin Hearts, Lumote, Tiny Troopers Global Ops, Arcade Paradise, and The Last Worker.[51] A new Martha is Dead trailer was revealed during the show, as well as an announcement for a Deliver Us The Moon next-gen upgrade.[52][53] A free update for The Falconeer was released during the digital event, Atun's Folly, which released for Xbox Series X|S and PC.[54] In May 2021, Wired Productions partnered with cloud-gaming specialist Blacknut to bring their games to the cloud gaming catalogue.[55]

Charity

On 23 October 2017, Wired Productions and LKA, developers of The Town of Light, donated $10,000[56] to US mental health charity Take This, Inc. Following this, Wired MD Leo Zullo, Head of Marketing Neil Broadhead and Head of Publishing Gareth Williams formed[57] video game mental health charity Safe In Our World. The charity is independent of Wired Productions, though one of the initial programs for the charity was to team up with Wired and BAFTA for the release of Fractured Minds, a game created by a then 16-year-old gamer to express her own journey of mental health. Profits from the game were split between the Charity and a private fund for the developers future.[58] In 2020 Wired announced a percentage of all sales of AVICII Invector were to be donated to The Tim Bergling Foundation and Safe In Our World. [59]

Awards

In 2017, Emily Mitchell, developer of Fractured Minds, won a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for Game Making.[60][61]

In March 2021, Wired Productions and developer Tomas Sala were nominated for a BAFTA Games Award for Best Debut Game for The Falconeer.[62]
