"With a Bullet" is a promotional single by Harry Nilsson, released in 1982. With an anti-handgun logo on the cover (also seen in the 1984 music video "Loneliness"),[2] the album promoted a message of controlling handguns and was inspired by the sudden murder of John Lennon.[3] The track on side A, "With a Bullet", is a doodle Nilsson created when he showed up in studio one day, and features the only take of the song. [4] Similar to "The Flying Saucer Song" from the 1976 album Sandman, it features two people in an argument. This time however, one of these people is threatening the other with a handgun, and the two discuss how dangerous it is, as well as a number of other handgun statistics. The song "Judy" on side B was created for an audience member at Beatlefest, who donated $500 to the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.[5] Most notably, Nilsson asked the audience member what kind of song they wanted, to which she replied "a catchy one." After a couple takes the end result is seen on the LP.
