Workato is a cloud-based enterprise automation and integration platform company headquartered in Mountain View, California.[1][2] Workato is considered an integration platform as a service (iPaaS) which connects its clients' enterprise software applications across functions such as finance, marketing, sales, customer service, DevOps, and IT operations and is used by over 21,000 companies.[3]
History[edit]
Workato was founded by Gautham Viswanathan, Harish Shetty, Dimitris Kogias and Vijay Tella in 2013.[4] Tella is currently the Workato CEO. Workato saw a marketplace gap where full-fledged integration tools were too technical for business users and easier to use tools like Zapier were not sophisticated enough for enterprises.[5][6] Workato targets the Small & Medium Business market with its Workplace offering, whereas its Enterprise Suite targets Enterprise-level clients.[7] Workato offers over 400,000 “Public” integrations and has over 2 Million “Proprietary” integrations.[8] Workato users create “Recipes” that consist of multiple steps involving connections / integrations with different platforms.[9] Workato offers over 400,000 “Public” integrations and has over 2 Million “Proprietary” integrations.[10] and complex Workato recipes can be completed and implemented in a relatively few days.[11]
In July 2017, Workato raised $10M in Series A funding.[12] The funding round was led by Storm Ventures and including Salesforce Ventures and Workday Ventures.[13][14][15][16][17] Workato raised an additional $25M in its December 2018 Series B funding round[18][19] led by Battery Ventures, Storm Ventures, Workday Ventures, and ServiceNow participated in the funding round,. In November 2019, Workato raised an additional $70M in its Series C round of funding, bringing its total funding to $111M led by Redpoint Ventures and including Geodesic Capital and Norwest Venture Partners[1] plus existing investors Storm Ventures and Battery Ventures.[2]
In 2018, Workato launched pre-built automations for the Sales, Marketing & HR verticals.[20] In 2019, Workato launched an online marketplace for automations connecting businesses with automation experts[21] as well as an integration with Zendesk[22] and Snowflake.[23] In 2020, Workato announced pre-built integrations for Slack, Microsoft Teams and Facebook Workplace.[24] and announced an integration with Adobe Exchange.[25] In January 2021, Workato raised $110 Million in Funding on a post-money valuation of $1.7 Billion with the round led by Altimeter Capital and Insight Partners.[26][27]
Awards[edit]
Workato received the 2016 "Best SaaS Newcomer" prize from the SaaS Awards.[28] and was featured in the 2020 Gartner Magic Quadrant for iPaaS.[29]
