World Futures Day (WFD) has been observed on 2 December every year.[1] On 4 November 2021, a resolution was adopted at the UNESCO 41st General Conference session in November 2021 to recognize World Futures Day, to encourage inclusive and cross-disciplinary conversations on the future.[2] One of the reasons to institutionalize this day is to raise awareness of futures literacy, or Futures Studies, which is becoming increasingly important in academia and industry.[3]

The theme for the first event was "Inclusive and Resilient Futures". This year, in order to promote sustainable development for future generations, the effort seeks to increase long-term resilience through future and anticipatory approaches, including strategic foresight, encouraging future preparation, and proactive policy-making.[4]
