World Kabaddi
World Kabaddi is a non-profit organization which describes itself as an international governing body of National (Asian Style) Kabaddi, Circle Kabaddi and Beach Kabaddi. It is the highest governing body of kabaddi.
World Kabaddi is responsible for the governance and management of kabaddi at the international level; the development and promotion of kabaddi globally; the codification of the official rules and regulations of kabaddi; supporting the establishment of National Federations; the education and development of athletes, coaches and technical officials; sanctioning national and international competitions and events; establishing and maintaining world-ranking statistics; and the governance, management and development of all three formats of kabaddi.
History
Kabaddi is an ancient traditional game that has its origins.[1] in India. It is believed that the game is more than 5,000 years old. It is known by different names around the world including Hututu, Sadugudu and Teechub.
World Kabaddi was founded to oversee international competition among the national associations and to promote and develop the sport of kabaddi. Membership now comprises 55 national associations. These national associations must each also be members of one of the five regional confederations: Asia, Africa, Europe, Pan America and Oceania.
World Kabaddi outlines a number of objectives in the organizational Statutes, including growing kabaddi internationally, providing efforts to ensure kabaddi is accessible to everyone, and advocating for integrity and fair play.

Formation
On March 24, 2018, the New Kabaddi Federation hosted delegates representing kabaddi organizations around the world to discuss and plan ways to promote and develop the sport of kabaddi in a more structured and professional way.
In attendance were delegates from Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Chile, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Qatar, Rodrigues, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Timor Leste, United Arab Emirates, England, United States of America, Ukraine, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

Former Indian Prime Minister Sharad Pawar was the chief guest at the event.
The World Kabaddi Statutes and a Ten-Year Strategic Plan were adopted at the meeting. A protem committee was also elected during the meeting.
The current president of World Kabaddi is Ashok Das[2] of England. S.T. Arasu [3]of Malaysia, where the secretariat is located, is the secretary general of the organization.
Affiliations
World Kabaddi is an affiliated member of The Association for Sports For All (TAFISA). The application for affiliation[4] was approved in November 2020.
Following the affiliation, World Kabaddi has made arrangements to participate at the TAFISA World Sports for All Games[5] in Lisbon, Portugal from June 18-24.
Kabaddi competitions for both the national style kabaddi and circle kabaddi will be held as part of the Games.
Regional Bodies
The World Kabaddi comprise of five regional bodies namely Kabaddi Africa, Kabaddi Asia, Kabaddi Europe, Kabaddi Oceania and Kabaddi Pan America.
The key protem office bearers of the five continental bodies were also elected during their respective meetings held in Bangalore on March 24, 2018.
Kabaddi Africa
Kabaddi Africa member countries are Afghanistan, Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The president of Kabaddi Africa is Harish Kumar SIngh of Mauritius and the secretary is Mathew Mwangi of Kenya.
Kabaddi Asia
Kabaddi Asia member countries are China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Thailand and Timor Leste.
The current president is Dr M.V. Prasad Babu of India and the secretary Mogan Kumar Raju of Malaysia.
Kabaddi Europe
Kabaddi Europe member countries are Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, England, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Scotland. The president is Ashok Das of England and secretary Abhishek Sharma of Denmark.
Kabaddi Oceania
Kabaddi Oceania has only two members currently in Australia and New Zealand. The president is Jagjit SIngh Gurm of Australia with New Zealand's Tara SIng Bains as the secretary.
Kabaddi Pan America
Kabaddi Pan America members are Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the USA. Ratnagar Singh Dhillon of the USA is the president while Parmender Sharma of Canada is the secretary.
Competitions
World Kabaddi organizes and sanction international competition for its members. The World Cup Kabaddi is the most important event in its calendar.
World Cup
The inaugural tournament - 2019 World Cup Kabaddi - was held in the Malaysian city of Melaka.
Both the men's and women's competition were held with India being crowned as double champions.
The top four finishers in the men's category were India, Iraq, Taiwan and Malaysia. For the women's competition, India, Taiwan, Malaysia and Hong Kong were the top four finishers.
Australia were among the various non-Asian teams[6] to participate at the tournament.
Indo International Premier Kabaddi League
The IIPKL was hosted by the New Kabaddi Federation (NKFI) and sanctioned by the World Kabaddi.
The inaugural edition of the IIPKL started on 13 May in Pune, India[7]. The title for the inaugural season was won by the Bangalore Rhinos.
European Kabaddi championship
The first edition of European Kabaddi Championship[8] was held in Scotland in 2019 under the auspices of the Scottish Kabaddi Association. The England Kabaddi Association were the co-hosts of the inaugural championships.
The final match was between Poland and Holland, Poland won the tournament. Final score was Poland 47–27 Holland.
The second edition of the European Kabaddi championships is scheduled to be held in Cyprus in 2021.
Africa Kabaddi Championships
The inaugural Africa Kabaddi Championships[9] was originally scheduled to be held in Tanzania in December 2020 but was forced to be postponed because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The tournament has been rescheduled from April 6-10 in Dar es Salaam. The tournament to be hosted by the Tanzania Kabaddi Association is expected to draw nine teams including several from the East Africa[10]
World Kabaddi Day
March 24 was selected as the World Kabaddi Day[11] in December 2019. Unity in Diversity[12] was picked as the theme for the celebrations in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic most on-ground activities around the world had to be cancelled.
The World Kabaddi decided to include an online poll to award officials and players for their contribution to the sport. The World Kabaddi Awards turned out to be a grand success with officials and athletes around the world being awarded certificates.
The Awards were given at the National Level[13] in each country for Best Male Player, Best Female Player, Best Coach, Best Technical Official, Best Club, Best Volunteer and Best Administrator.
For the International Level[14] the following Awards were given for the year 2020:
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Achintya Kumar Saha (India)
- Best International Administrator: S.T. Arasu (Malaysia)
- Best National Kabaddi Association: Malaysia Kabaddi Federation (MKF)
- President's Merit Award: Parmender Sharma (Canada)
