World Serval Day

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

World Serval Day takes place on 18 March every year. It was launched by the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary in 2023 to raise awareness of the African serval as part of the charity's SERVIVAL campaign, which aims to ban the breeding of exotic cats such as servals with domestic breeds to create felid hybrids in the United Kingdom.

SERVIVAL

The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary launched their SERVIVAL campaign in July 2021 after being made aware of two serval kittens rescued from a house in France. The servals, called Tafkap and Xirus, were initially cared for by AAP (Animal Advocacy and Protection) in Holland[1] before the Sanctuary were able to rehome them in November 2021.[2]

The Sanctuary used Tafkap and Xirus' rescue story to campaign for legislative change in the United Kingdom, including submitting proposed amendments to the Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) Bill in 2022.[3]

The SERVIVAL campaign is supported by BIAZA, with a blog post by the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary's COO being published on their website in February 2022.[4]
