Wynncraft
Wynncraft is Minecraft's largest MMORPG server, having more than 2,000,000 unique players ever join the server[1] and has a current player base of about 100,000 players. It was founded by Francis "Salted" Mailloux, Charles "Grian" Batchelor and Isaac "Jumla" Pohl-Zaretsky on the official beta launch on 29 April 2013. It was officially launched on the 6th of July that year.[2]
Gameplay
Wynncraft is played in a large custom-made world of 4000 x 5500 blocks[2], made by over 200 volunteers.[1] The player can pick between 5 different classes; mage, archer, warrior, assassin, and shaman, which all have their own unique spells alongside their own weaknesses and strengths. In the world of Wynncraft, there are quests, discoveries, dungeons and monsters that will result in giving experience points, in-game money and items, to make the player level up. Some quests involve time-travelling, others defeating bosses while some take the player to the moon. The game can be played alone or with a friend, in a guild to defeat foes.[3]
There is a unique item system in the game, with different item tiers: depressing, normal, unique, rare, set, legendary, crafted and mythic. These items range in power and have their own play styles, with the different identifications in the game. The items can be found by killing mobs, doing quests, looting chests, buying them, making them or other ways. There are different types of items, such as armour, weapons and accessories.[4]
History
Work on Wynncraft started in late 2012,[5] and it was opened for beta on 29 April 2013[2] by the CraftedMovie team.[6] Many parts of it have been remade and reworked several times since the release. The current version is 1.18. [7]
The game has reached over 100,000 lines of code, which is more than many full-fledged games.
On 4 July 2017, Wynncraft was awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest MMORPG built in Minecraft.[2]
Income
A founder of the game, Francis Mailloux, has announced that he isn't rich, but rents his own apartment for working with Wynncraft[2], with the money that comes in with the store, where people can buy ranks, cosmetics, pets and boosters that affect the entire server the player is in.[8]
