Xóchitl Rodriguez is the current mayor of Woodland, California.[1]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Xóchitl Rodriguez was born in Saint Helena, California and was raised in Woodland, California.[2] Both her parents and extended family come from a background of farmworkers. Growing up in Woodland, Xóchitl attended Freeman Elementary, Lee Junior High, and Woodland High. Her parents and siblings live in Woodland and have been residents of the community since 1983.

She is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, having served a one-year tour with the 481st Transportation Company (Heavy Boat) in Kuwait Naval Base from 2004 to 2005.[3] She is also a first generation college student, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Spanish from the University of California, Davis in 2008, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Spanish from the California State University, Sacramento.

Xóchitl currently lives in Woodland's fifth district with her husband Antonio Murillo. Both are active members of the US Army Reserves.

Professional Experience[edit]

After graduating from the University of California, Davis, Xóchitl began her tenure in the State Legislature in 2008 as an intern in the California Assembly Office of the Chief Clerk. Xóchitl owes her interest in public service to the work she accomplished as a field representative under California's 53rd State Assembly district. In this role, she served as a liaison between constituents, government representatives and state agencies. She promoted civic engagement in the community of Boyle Heights, the cities of Huntington Park, California and Vernon, California, and other communities surrounding Downtown Los Angeles. Much of her work involved policy meetings, event planning, community outreach and constituent casework services.

Xóchitl was elected to the Woodland City Council for District 5 in November 2016.[4] During this time, she began serving as a Principal Consultant to Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, where she leads the outreach for prospective appointees to California state boards and commissions.

On November 4, 2018, Xóchitl was sworn in as the mayor of Woodland, which selects its mayors from its city council members in rotation by district number.[5]
