The Xavier Cup 9 (or Xavier Cup 9: Immortalizing Debate for marketing purposes) is the 9th edition of Xavier Cup, an intervarsity open debate tournament organized by Remontados: The Ateneo de Naga University Debate Society. Unlike tournaments sanctioned by the Bicol Debate Union such as the Raul Roco Cup, teams may be composite teams (members are not required to be currently enrolled in any institution) and participate as independents (competing without representing any institution).

The tournament started on 11 April and ended on 14 April. This is the first Xavier Cup which featured the Bro. Sergio Adriatico Cup, the High School break category of the tournament.

An independent team composed of Janielle Bea Sanchez from Ateneo de Naga University Senior High School, Charlyn Lastrollo (both from Ateneo de Naga University College won the tournament.

Meanwhile, the team representing Universidad de Santa Isabel Senior HS composed of Francine Cloza, Pauline Barcia, and Mark Winters won the inaugural Bro. Adriatico (High School) Cup.

Format

Following the tournament code, the competition was divided into two phases- the Elimination Phase and the Final Phase (also referred to as the breaks or out-round). The Elimination Phase consists of 5 debate rounds spread across two (2) days. At the end of the eliminations, the Top 8 teams according to team and speaker points advance to the Open Final Phase. Meanwhile, the best 2 High School teams who did not qualify for the Top 8 advances to the Adriatico Cup Grand Final.

The Open Final Phase will follow the single-elimination format starting with the Quarterfinals. The winning team of each QF room advances to the Semi-Finals and subsequently, to the Grand Final. The winner of the Grand Final formally wins the tournament's championship.

At the end of the Xavier Cup, the Top 10 Best Speakers and Adjudicators are also recognized based on the scores they acquired during the elimination rounds.
