Education[edit]

Dr Tian earned his doctor’s degree at Fudan University[2] in 2013, and his master's degree of Medical Sciences at the Capital University of Medical Sciences[3], and before that, he earned his bachelor's degree of Preventive Medicine at Tongji Medical University (now Huazhong University of Science and Technology[4]).

Research and original contributions[edit]

  1. 1996—2002: Led a research team in establishing the first system for observing behavioral risk factors for chronic diseases in Beijing reported by the Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine.[1]
  2. 1998—2003: Conducted a groundbreaking research to create health promoting universities over the world reported by the Health Promotion international, and taken as the major reference of Chinese National Notice on School Student Health Education by Ministry of Education.[5]
  3. 2003: Led communication and education efforts in response to the SARS epidemic, established the first self-reported system of influenza-like monitoring symptoms reported by the Chinese Journal of General Practice.[2]
  4. 2007: Directed the implementation of the research project, "Research on Chinese Healthy Village Evaluation Index System" and healthy village pilot study reported by Global Health Promotion, and applied by Ministry of Health across China.[3][6][7]
  5. 2008:Established the first model of health education and promotion at the emergency of public health response to earthquake.[8]
  6. 2013: Chaired the first, the second and the third theoretical summit of health promoting hospitals; Directed the formulation of the National Work Norms for Health Promoting Hospitals, which was promulgated nationwide for guiding the provinces and municipalities in their pilot rendition of health promoting hospitals.[9]
  7. 2013-2015, Presided over the National Sci-Tech R&D Research Program on infectious diseases (code number 2013BAI06B06) of the 12th Five-Year Plan for Economic Development, in which he constructed the world's first index system and scale for evaluating the public's health literacy concerning infectious diseases. This study, published in BMJ Open, filled a major gap in the academic and medical literature.[10][4][5]
  8. Presently, leading a team to conduct a 3-year research on health literacy scale development of rural population, in conjunction with the School of Public Health of Peking Union Medical University. This study was financially supported by National Natural Science Fund which is affiliated to Ministry of Science and Technology.[11]
