Xiaotie Deng (Chinese: 邓小铁) is a computer scientist and Chair Professor at Peking University. He serves as the Executive Director of the Center of Frontiers on Computing Studies and the Director of Multiagent System Research at the Institute of AI, Peking University. His research primarily focuses on algorithmic game theory, mechanism design, blockchain, and multi-agent reinforcement learning.
Education
Deng received his B.Sc. from Tsinghua University in 1982. He obtained his M.Sc. from the Institute of Systems Sciences at the Academia Sinica in 1984, under the supervision of YJ Zhu. He completed his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 1989, advised by Christos Papadimitriou.[1][not in citation given]
Career
Following his doctoral studies, Deng held an NSERC International Postdoc Fellowship at Simon Fraser University from 1989 to 1991. He joined York University, Canada, serving as an Assistant Professor from 1991 to 1996 and as a tenured Associate Professor from 1996 to 1999.[2][not in citation given]
In 1997, he moved to the City University of Hong Kong, where he advanced from Associate Professor to Professor, eventually serving as Chair Professor of Computer Science from 2007 to 2013.[3] During this period, he was also a member of the visiting Chair Professor Team at Tsinghua University (2005–2008).
Deng served as a Chair Professor in Economics and Computation at the University of Liverpool from 2010 to 2012.[4] From 2012 to 2017, he was a Zhiyuan Chair Professor in Computer Science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.[5] Since 2017, he has served as a Chair Professor in Computer Science at Peking University.[6]
