Early life[edit]
When Abogabir was 12 years old, her mother left and married Sergio Livingstone. Her father was a farmworker.[1]
Career[edit]
Porta[edit]
Abogabir founded Porta, an advertising agency in Chile, and subsequently worked there for 12 years. She left the agency after attending a dream interpretation workshop led by Lola Hoffmann at which she dreamed that it was the last day of her life and she had to explain to her son that she hadn't had time to watch him play rugby. Another factor in her departure was guilt about the businesses for which she was advertising.[1]
Casa de la Paz[edit]
In 1983, Abogabir founded Casa de la Paz, a Chilean environmentalist organization focused on education to promote sustainability.[1] Within the organization, she specialized in conflict resolution and public participation.[2]
In 2013, Abogabir worked with environmental engineer Mayling Yuen to create a recycling initiative in Santiago. The program was successful and was implemented in Recoleta and Quinta Normal by the Chilean Ministry of the Environment.[3]
After 35 years leading the organization, she decided to move on.[4]
Travesía 100[edit]
After leaving Casa de la Paz, Abogabir co-founded Travesía 100 and became its vice president. A B Corporation in Chile, Travesía 100 is focused on changing societal perception of people aged 60 and older.[2]
Recognition[edit]
Abogabir was elected to the Ashoka Fellowship in 1995.[5]
Personal life[edit]
Abogabir is married to Sergio Vergara. She has had one previous marriage.[1] She has 28 grandchildren.[4]
