The YGz, also known as the Young Gunnaz, is a street gang located in The Bronx.
History
In 2013, Juther Perez, alleged leader of the YGz, was killed during a fight with the Young Flybridge gang. Two shootings resulted in the following month as retaliation for his death.[1]
In 2014, 20 members of the RPT YGz, located in the River Park Towers, were arrested and indicted for drug dealing and acts of violence that occurred between 2010 and 2014.[2]
In 2015, 21 members of the YGz were arrested for acts of violence against rival gang 18 Park between 2005 and 2015, including the killing of Moises Lora by stomping him to death in 2012.[3]
In 2016, New York police officers arrested 120 members of the 2Fly YGz, located in the Eastchester Gardens housing project, and their rivals, the Big Money Bosses or BMB, in what was noted as the "largest gang takedown" within the city. Violence between the two groups resulted in the deaths of 6 people between 2009 and 2014.[4][5]
In 2021, Ramon Gil-Medrano, a member of the 800 YGz, was shot and killed in Tremont. Two teenagers were arrested for his death;[6] In addition, seven members of the 800 YGz were indicted on firearms offenses.[7]
In 2022, 22 members of the RPT gang, which was affiliated with the YGz,[8] were indicted on 65 counts.[9] In addition, an 11-year-old was shot and killed by members of the 800 YGz; 2 people were arrested in connection with the death. It was noted by James Essig, chief of detectives for the NYPD, that a 13-year-old was the intended target.[10]
