1996
Dr. Adel Bukhowa established the Yum Yum Tree Food Court in June 1996 in Bahrain[2], starting at the location of Exhibition Road with the concept of an international style food court. This concept of “restaurants within a restaurant” offered customers the opportunity to have their cuisine of choice – options from the East and the West in one place. 2000 – 2015
Bukhowa Investments LLC continued to gain regional prominence over the years and expanded its food court with new international cuisine concepts through franchises from the United States and Canada[2].
Yum Yum Tree Food Court then continued to expand its concepts of restaurants in standalone locations in major malls, airports, petrol station, office parks and street side venues, establishing a presence in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar & the UAE[3].
2016 – Present
In the year 2016, Global acquired the Bukhowa family business[4][5]. Global was established in 1998 to offer investors various investment solutions[6]. During its initial years of operation, the focus was primarily on offering Kuwaiti, GCC and international products in the Kuwait market[6].
Today, this food business is a GCC entity housed under the group name “YYT Food Corporation LLC”, reaching more than 150 branded units.

Vanellis[2]: Part of the MTY Group, Vanellis has been serving Italian food cuisine for over 30 years across Canada and worldwide. Vanellis opened its first franchise unit in Bahrain in 1996 and continued to expand across the GCC region[7].
Teriyaki[2]: Part of the MTY Group, Teriyaki Experience is Japanese-inspired Asian fast food and fast service outlet. A concept around the teppanyaki grill where meals are prepared in a live station before the customers. The first Teriyaki Experience franchise opened its doors in the GCC region in 2009[8].
Pad Thai[2]: Pad Thai, a new take on traditional Thai Cuisine, joined the MTY family in 2004 and opened its first GCC franchise in Bahrain in 2007[9].
Subway[2]: With more than 44,000 locations around the world, Subway is a privately held American fast food restaurant franchise that primarily servers submarine sandwiches prepared on demand[10]. The first franchise opened its doors in Bahrain in 1984.
Tandori[2]: The Tandori restaurants is a fast food chain that specializes in the cuisine of Northern India. Tandori's menu offers marinated meats, vegetables and Naan breads cooked in the traditional Indian way.[11]
Al Mangal Express[2]: Serving Arabic grills at their outlets, Al Mangal Express incorporates live cooking grills for customers[12].
Tiki-Ming[2]: Part of the MTY family since 1983[13], Tiki-Ming is a Chinese quick-service outlet in Canada. Tiki-Ming expanded internationally and opened its first franchise unit in Bahrain in 1996[14].
Menchies[2]: Founded in California in 2007[15], Menchie’s is an American frozen yogurt chain that offers self-serve frozen yogurt. With over 400 stores, the franchise has locations open around the world, including the United States, Canada, China, Japan, India, Bahrain and more[16].
