Countries of Operation
Today, Yamazaki Headquarters is located in Nara, Japan. In 2014, Yamazaki Home began its expansion outside of Japan by opening its first global office in the United States.[1] The U.S. branch is located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. A couple years later, in 2016, Yamazaki took their business to Europe, by opening its EU branch, based in Germany.
History
Yamazaki started as a family-run business more than 100 years and four generations ago, manufacturing ironing boards.[2]
Around 1950, Japanese people began trading kimonos for western clothing, so the company adapted by making ironing boards[3]. In more recent years, the brand saw an opportunity to expand its product line, to offer a wider range of products for every area of the home.
The first non-ironing board product designed was the umbrella stand. The popularity of the product helped Yamazaki transition from just an “ironing-board maker” to a brand that created items for use throughout the home. Quality, simplicity, and functionality became synonymous with the Japanese brand.
