Yaroslav Lvovych Huzar (Ukrainian: Ярослав Львович Гузар; 26 November 1897, Stanyslaviv, now Ivano-Frankivsk, Austria-Hungary – 2 December 1963, Detroit, USA) was a Ukrainian public figure. He was the father of Liubomyr Huzar.[1]
Biography[edit]
Yaroslav Huzar was born on 26 November 1897 in the city of Stanyslaviv, now Ivano-Frankivsk, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine.[1]
He graduated from the Stanyslaviv Gymnasium and the Vienna Trade Studio.[1]
In 1915 he joined the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, and later the Ukrainian Galician Army. Participant of the Chortkiv offensive.[1]
He worked in a cooperative in Halych (now Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast); at the Ukrainian Land Bank in Lviv.[1]
Activist of public organizations. Since 1949, he has been the administrator of the People's House in New York (USA), the founder of the Dumka Men's Choir and the Union of Ukrainian Choirs of America.[2] He moved to Detroit, where he died on 2 December 1963.[1]
