Early Life and Education[edit]
Mohammed Yasser bin Abdul Majeed bin Mohammed Ali Alaya, known as Yasser Alaya, was born in the Bab Sreija neighborhood in Damascus in 1947 (1366 AH). He graduated from the Department of Arabic Language, Faculty of Arts, University of Damascus in 1971.
Career[edit]
Yasser Alaya was a prominent Arabic language teacher in the high schools and institutes of Damascus. He was known for his distinctive teaching style, which made learning Arabic enjoyable for students. Alaya was appointed as the first supervisor of Arabic language in the Syrian Ministry of Education for many years. He also contributed to the authorship of grammar, reading, and textbooks for various educational stages.
Alaya taught in the United Arab Emirates for three years at Rashid Private School, which served the sons of the state’s rulers. In his later years, he supervised and taught at the Syrian National Modern School and Rawad Al-Majd School in Damascus.
Teaching Style and Legacy[edit]
Yasser Alaya was renowned for his refined manners, elegant appearance, and exemplary teaching methods. He adopted innovative teaching techniques, including the use of colorful pens and artistic handwriting, to make lessons enjoyable and memorable. He treated his students with great respect and had a gentle, poetic spirit. His unique style and dedication to teaching left a lasting impact on his students.
Death[edit]
Yasser Alaya passed away in Damascus due to a brain hemorrhage on the 29th of Rabi' al-Thani 1436 AH (18th February 2015) at the age of seventy. He was buried in the Bab al-Saghir cemetery.
