Filmography
Director
2010
This movie was Al Assadi's directorial debut from when he still was in college, based on one of Anton Chekhov's stories. “Yes, But” depicts the busy life of a student during his college years, and shows the struggles he goes through every day in order to make his dreams come true, all wrapped up in a comedy and light story.[8]
2013
This movie tells the story of a man who has a few days to live due to his illness. Every day this man walks into his studio, draws painting full of colors, and gives samples of his blood to a near laboratory. While no one is looking after him, he becomes more lonely and decides to write his own diary day by day, only to discover that he was dead from the very beginning, and the only thing remaining in his house is his ghost[12] [13]
Paradise is Here[5]
2015
The idea of this movie was derived from the beauty of Malaysia, where Al Assadi lived during his study of cinema and TV. This movie is a short poetic documentary that describes a journey in Cameron Highland, Malaysia. He showed the obstacles and rough path one must go through in order to get there, but when you reach, it's officially paradise on earth. Al Assadi highlighted all breath-taking landscape for visitors, and made a time-lapse of the tea farm landscape showing the amazing details of bees and flowers within this farm.
Silou: A Tale of an Orang Asli[4][14][15][16]
2019
This short documentary film - directed and produced by Al Assadi- is about a group of the first people who came to Malaysia and they are still living in one of the oldest forests in the world 'Taman Negara'.
Style
Al Assadi’s style shows a tendency to challenge the viewer to think beyond the scene, and give unexpected closures. He always delivers the main idea directly while keeping some messages in his films indirect.
