Ye Xiaoluan (Chinese: 葉小鸞) (1616 – c. 1632) was a Chinese poet who lived during the late Ming Dynasty.
Biography
Ye Xiaoluan was born into a family of scholars. Her father Ye Shaoyuan was a Jinshi in the Tianqi Era and an officer of Guozijian. Her mother Shen Yixiu and older sister Ye Wanwan were also poets. She was raised by her uncle and aunt.
In her early years, she was known as a child prodigy, as she could read Chu Ci at the age of four. She was also good at chess and music. [1][2]
Ye Xiaoluan died at age 16, five days before her marriage. Her fiancé was Zhang Liping. After her death, her sister Ye Wanwan died shortly thereafter.
Poetry
Ye Xiaoluan is considered a writer skilled at Regulated verse. Her poems are mostly focused on the connection between emotions and views.
芳朝丽淑景,
庭草茸清香。
帘栊摇白日,
影弄春花光。
妆梳明月髻,
杯浮碧华觞。
瑶池谅非邈,
愿言青鸟翔
Early morning’s view is so beautiful
And grasses in the garden are fragrant
Curtain is shaking with sunlight
Shadow is playing with flowers
Moonlight shines on my hair bun
The happiness is floating on the cup
No sadness in the lake,
I hope that is the blue bird flying
