Yeonsoo Kim

Yeonsoo Kim, born in Haenam, South Korea, is an artist currently serving as a long-term resident artist at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston, Texas. Kim has participated in several artist residency programs, including the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Archie Bray Foundation, and Morean Center for Clay, enriching his artistic practice and fostering cross-cultural exchange.[1]

Early life and education

Yeonsoo Kim is a ceramic artist born in Haenam, South Korea. He studied onggi ware production in Ulsan, Korea, in 2006–07, and continued his studies in Gwangju, South Korea, from 2002–04. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Glass from Hongik University in Seoul and completed his Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics at the University of Georgia in Athens.[2][3]

Career

Yeonsoo Kim has taught ceramic courses at various institutions, including the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center in Houston and the University of Georgia.[1][4]

Honors and awards

Throughout his career, Kim has received multiple awards, including the First Prize Award and Best in Show at the 2022 Bayou City Art Festival and the 2020 NCECA Emerging Artist Award. All of these accolades recognize his work in ceramics.[1]
