Yiğit Kolat

Yiğit Kolat (born in 1984 in Ankara, Turkey) is a Turkish-American composer and pianist. He is the recipient of several international awards for his compositions. He currently lives in Seattle, Washington.

Education[edit]

Kolat attended Hacettepe University where he studied piano, composition, and conducting. He attended University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee where he received a master's degree in Music while studying composition and piano[1] and studied under Kamran Ince. Kolat attended the University of Washington, receiving his D.M.A.[2] where he was a student of Joël-François Durand.

Awards and Honors[edit]

2012—Second Prize 7th Annual Concours International de Composition Henri Dutilleux.[3]

2012—Official Selection Nieuw Ensemble's Turkish Composer's Competition. [4]

2013—Finalist Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium for his piece "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra".[5]

2015—First Prize Toru Takemitsu Composition Award for his piece "[difeʁãs]". Judge:Kaija Saariaho.[6] The work was performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.[7]

2016—Edward T. Cone Bogliasco Fellow in Music [8]

2017—Fellow Millay Colony for the Arts[9]
