Away from social activism, Yil Fomwul-Gonsum is a media consultant who has worked as a Project Coordinator on How I Made My First Million, one of the first major sitcoms produced by Ebonylife TV when they birthed and worked on In Love and Ashes, a TV series set in Northern Nigeria at the height of insurgency attacks. The series was produced by a local Nigerian company in collaboration with an international company from Australia.

She acted and was an associate producer in the first season of Sons Of the Caliphate.

Career

Started acting for the screen after graduating from University of Jos in 2007, and later moved into film and TV production coordination, management and producing. Has worked with and for reputable individuals in the film industry and also media houses like Multi choice, Africa Magic, ONTV.

Humanitarian Activities

Her passion for social change and community development led her to found a non-profit organization called Saphira Global Center which focuses on creating opportunities and working to improve the lives of vulnerable women in her society.

Biography

She is an outspoken social activist on Good Governance, Girl Child Education and Human Rights. One of her recent projects was collaborating and accessing a grant from the MacArthur Foundation to produce a short film on Anti-Corruption.

On Human Rights, She is very outspoken about the need for social justice especially on issues of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Child abuse and Rape. Yil encourages teenage girls to kill the culture of silence and always speak up about cases of rape and sexual molestation in order to get justice and help reduce the ugly menace destroying the future of young girls in the society.

Yil mentors young women on their rights on rape and cultural gender Oppression. She also is an Ambassador of Global Youth Movement Against GBV, a Honoree of Global Female Library of Authors and also an awardee of Plateau Meritorious Award of Excellence as the most distinguished promoter of good governance.

One of Yil’s key areas of focus has been the provision of relief materials for widows and working on better lives for rural women in selected communities.

Apart from working on film and scripted television series, Yil has worked on documentaries and commercials for international donor agencies like Save the Children, Oxfam, International Rescue Committee and MNCH2. The documentaries are usually centered on women-affected issues like maternal/child health, nutrition and safety (in areas affected by insurgency).
