Yoav Shemesh

Yoav Shemesh (born 1981) is a New York based composer, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer from Israel. He has written for solo instruments, chamber ensembles and full symphony orchestras, incorporating both acoustic and electronic elements. Notable collaborations and commissions include New York Fashion Week - Music Director, composer and performer, The Israel Symphony Orchestra, Raanana Symphonette Orchestra, The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, The Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva, The Revolution Orchestra and NYU Symphony Orchestra. 

His compositions have been performed in various festivals and venues around the world, such as The Israeli Opera House, Festival De Cannes, CAAFD/ New York Fasion Week, The Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival MASS MoCA, Music With a View Festival, 92Y Tribeca, Skirball Center (NY), as well as Sounds in The Desserts, and The Jerusalem Theatre among others. He has written music for films that have been screened in over 40 festivals around the world including the Aniwow-Beijing Festival and the 25th Interfilm International Short Film Festival, Berlin.

Yo'av is the recipient of the Gertrude Krauss composition award, Chana Avni-Yaddor’s composition award, Elmer Bernstein Award in Film Scoring, the Carol Bayer Sager Scholarship in Songwriting, and first prize of the NYU Symphony Orchestra Composition competition, Music producer of the 2015 winning album/band at the KSF Award Original Music First Prize Award, and The 48 Hour Film Project.

Yo'av received his Bachelor of Arts degree in composition from the Jerusalem Academy of Music in 2009, and master’s degree in Composition, Film Scoring and Multimedia at New York University, winning the Elmer Bernstein Award in Film Scoring and the Carol Bayer Sager Scholarship in Songwriting.
