Yonok Chronicle
Yonok Chronicle (พงศาวดารโยนก) is a northern Thai historical chronicle connected to the early Royal Chronicles of Siam compiled by Phraya Prachakitkorachak (Chaem Bunnag). It was first serialized in the Wachirayan Newspaper between R.S. 117–118 (1898–1899 CE) and later collected and edited into a single volume in 1907 under the title History of Yonok. Prince Damrong Rajanubhab subsequently revised the work and renamed it Chronicle of Lao Chiang (พงษาวดารลาวเฉียง), reflecting the status of Lanna as the Monthon Lao Chiang at the time. The first printing under this new title appeared in 1917.
The contents include legends of Suwanna Khom Kham, the tale of Singhanavati, the founding of Hariphunchai and the Cāmadevivaṃsa, the story of Hiran Nakhon Chiang Saen, the Ping chronicle, the Chinnakalamalini chronicle of Chiang Mai, and legends of Chiang Rai, Nan, the Emerald Buddha, and the relics of Doi Tung, among others.[1] The book is divided into six sections:
- Suwanna Khom Kham – concerning the Khmer era
- Yonok – concerning the Tai era
- Hariphunchai – concerning the Mon era
- Ping Wong – concerning the Lao era
- Meng Wong – concerning the Mon and Bagan eras
- Thip Wong – concerning the Siamese era[2]
