YouAreAnIdiot
YouAreAnIdiot (also known as You Are an Idiot, Trojan.JS/Offiz or NoBrain) is a JavaScript/Flash-based trojan from the early 2000s. Loading an infected page triggers an animation displaying bouncing browser windows labeled “You are an idiot!” with looping taunts; attempts to close windows spawn additional pop-ups, producing a browser-based fork bomb effect.[1][2]
History
The earliest recorded instance of YouAreAnIdiot was on a site named youdontknowwhoiam.orġ in 2002. The trojan was hosted up until 2003 where it was then reverted back into an adult site. YouAreAnIdiot was later hosted on the site youareanidiot.orġ in 2004.[1]
The prank gained notoriety with a music remix video on YouTube titled you are an idiot! by YouTuber oniku1234, uploaded in September 2006; it has over 23 million views as of July 2025.
Behavior
When visiting a site hosting YouAreAnIdiot, a flash file titled “Youare.swf” would begin playing. This flashing animation features three smiling faces with the phrase “you are an idiot!” above them, the repeating audio byte accompanying these visuals reiterates the same phrase.[1]
On the browser Internet Explorer, there was a script that was able to bookmark the site and produce a dialog box saying “you are an idiot!” if the user pressed Ctrl+Alt+Dlt or Alt+F4. Utilizing Task Manager or restarting the computer would stop these processes entirely.[1]
